Baby Feeding Guide

Feeding Specialist and Lactation Consultant approved!

A lot goes into feeding a baby. No matter how you choose to feed your baby - nursing, pumping, formula, a combination of each - we have all of our feeding must-haves in one place. They’re all lactation consultant approved!

  1. Dr. Brown’s Glass Bottles (8oz): Glass bottles with a silicone sleeve (optional to put on). I like these because it’s Dr. Brown’s Options brand which means you don’t even need to use the green plastic insert that comes along with it! It can be a COMPLETELY plastic-free bottle if you want it to be. I used these with P when she was younger from time to time and Jenna used for her daughter, too!

  2. Dr. Brown’s Glass Options Bottles (4 oz): These 4 ounce glass bottles are a great option to use during the newborn stage when your little one is taking 4 ounces of less.

  3. Evenflo Glass Bottles: If you’re looking for glass bottles for your baby, this is another good option. Thermal resistant glass and venting within the nipple helps with a slower flow to baby. The long, sloped nipples promote deep breast-like latch and tongue cupping, so they are feeding specialist approved.

  4. Lazy Susan: Bottles cluttering your countertop? Grab one of these for an easy and affordable solution to less clutter. Pop it in your cabinet for easy access to bottles! Use it for pantry items once baby is done with bottles.

  5. Formula Dispenser: If using formula, this is great to measure formula ahead of time and mix into a bottle when you’re on-the-go!

  6. Baby Brezza: This machine mixes a bottle of formula perfectly in 10 seconds or less, and you can select the temperature setting. Jenna loved this when her daughter started taking formula. It makes bottle prep so easy.

  7. Lansinoh Bottles: Bottles like these with a long, narrow slope are best for oral development and mimic breastfeeding most closely.

  8. Baby Formula Dispenser Stack: These portable formula containers are great for when you are on-the-go and super user-friendly! It has a spout that allows you to easily pour formula into the bottle without making a mess.  There are 4 individual containers in one stack and it comes with 2 stacks! Once you are done with formula these containers can be used to put your little ones snacks in!

  9. Stainless Steel Funnels: These are great for pouring formula into the bottle without creating a powdered mess on the counter!

  10. 3-Drawer Stacking Storage: Need an organized place for storing all the parts to your baby’s bottle? These stackable drawers are the perfect solution! Each drawer can be dedicated to one part of the bottle (nipples, bottle ring, venting system pieces), so all parts are easy to find while assembling bottles. These containers can be placed on your countertop or cabinet!

  1. Boppy Pillow: A boppy pillow is a great thing to have for adding extra support for you or your baby while nursing. The pillow can also be useful as your little one grows to use during tummy time!

  2. Kindred Bravely Sublime Nursing Bra: This was a fan favorite when I sourced the community for the best nursing bra! Kindred Bravely has great quality bras for postpartum. Jenna LOVED hers.

  3. Cotton Bras: Okay, these are so comfortable and I wear them all the time. Affordable and nursing friendly, too! And if you like to sleep in a cami or bralette, these are perfect!

  4. Organic Cotton Reusable Nursing Pads: If you are experiencing leaking - especially during the early months of breastfeeding - these reusable nursing pads are great! They absorb milk really well so you don’t have to worry about leaking going past the pad! They are soft and comfortable!

  5. Silverettes: I used these postpartum to help prevent mastitis as silver is a natural antibacterial. Especially early on, these were so helpful!

  6. Nursing Bras: These are a great nursing bra option! You get three different colored bras for a great price. The material is comfortable and washes well. The clasps are easy to hook and unhook one handed.

  7. Colostrum Collection Kit: If you are wanting to try harvesting colostrum this set is for you! You can use these silicone catchers to catch the colostrum, freeze, and feed your baby with! The package comes with everything you need and easy to follow directions on how to use it. The catchers are also reusable.

  8. Motherlove Nipple Cream: This is another great option for nipple cream! The organic formula provides quick healing and soothing to the nipple whether you are nursing or pumping!

  9. Earth Mama Nipple Butter: Made with organic ingredients and safe for baby, we all used this postpartum. No lanolin, and really helps soothe and hydrate sore/cracked nipples. You can even use it on your lips or dry skin!

  10. EZPZ Tiny Cup: The perfect size for little hands and for new drinkers! If baby is refusing the bottle, it’s okay to use one of these and offer breastmilk! Open cup drinking helps with jaw strength and oral coordination.

  11. Bamboobies Nursing Pillows: These soothing breast pillows are great things to have on hand during your breastfeeding journey to help soothe any type of breast discomfort. The versatility is great as you can use them hot or cold. These are also larger in size compared to other comfort pads.

  12. Olababy Straw Cup: This cup is my absolute favorite! First, it can teach straw drinking by plugging the hole in the lid with your finger and squeezing the liquid up the straw. Once baby realizes that liquid comes up, their suck reflex usually kicks in and they start to drink on their own. This can also be used to offer breastmilk if baby is refusing bottle!

  1. Ceres Chill Breastmilk Chiller: Pumping on-the-go or working long days? The Ceres Chill can keep breastmilk chilled for up to 20 hours - just add ice! When Jenna was working 16 hour days without access to refrigeration, she used this…it works!

  2. Spectra S1 Pump: We love the Spectra S1! It’s easy to use, has great suction, and the charge holds for hours - so you never need to be stuck to an outlet! It even has a little night light if you’re pumping through the evening and early morning hours and don’t want to turn on all the lights.

  3. Breast Pump Bag: This pumping bag has a bit more style than just a typical backpack. It can function as both a work and pump bag. The space and compartments are great in size as it fits most Spectra and other pumps plus bottles, spare pump parts, a 15” laptop and much more!

  4. BabyBuddha Breast Pump: This pump was recommended by my IBCLC if I needed to pump on-the-go as it has great suction for a portable pump! Highly rated among my friends as well!

  5. Haakaa Ladybug Breastmilk Collector: The ladybug catcher is the perfect size to fit in a nursing bra to collect any leakage. It can be worn on the opposite breast while you are feeding your little one to collect any leaking milk. The suction on this compared to the Original Haaka is not as intense, but still creates some suction.

  6. Breast Pump Backpack & Cooler: This backpack can fit all your pump and all the extra necessities without the bulk. The top compartment can hold your pump, flanges, and bottles. The bottom compartment is insulated and can store your expressed milk plus an ice pack!

  7. Momcozy Pumping Bra: This breathable, cotton bra can be worn for both pumping and nursing. It provides good support for the flange and bottle while pumping. It comes in a pack of 2 or 3 in neutral colors.

  8. Breastmilk Storage Container: These freezable silicone trays are the perfect method for freezing your expressed breastmilk. Freezing and storing expressed breastmilk in smaller volumes is great so you don’t have to thaw more than what your little one will drink!

  9. Haakaa Manual Breast Pump: The tried and true Haaka! This manual pump is easy to use and easy to clean! Use this when you don’t want to get your electric pump out. It can also be used as a milk catcher during a nursing session on the opposite breast your baby is feeding from. However, if using it during this, be careful not to use too much suction on the breast as it will take “easy milk” away from your baby if they choose to eat on that side.

  10. Medela Manual Breast Pump: This manual hand pump is perfect for multiple occasions! Use it overnight if you need to pump so you don’t need to set up your electric pump. Or you can use while you are on-the-go!

  11. Kindred Bravely Sublime Sports Pumping Bra: Another fan favorite when I sourced the community for the best bras postpartum! This pumping bra was the most popular response. Jenna LOVED her pumping bras from this company - totally worth the investment.

  12. Flange Sizing Kit: This is the perfect combo of flange sizer with a variety of sizes of flange inserts. Don’t discard the other flange sizes that you do not use immediately as sometimes your flange size can fluctuate throughout your breastfeeding journey as your nipples change.

  13. Lactation Consultant Approved Bottles: Bottles with a long, narrow slope are best for oral development and mimic breastfeeding most closely. We love the Dr. Brown’s Options, Evenflo, and Lansinoh bottles shown here.

  1. Dr. Brown’s Silicone Dishwasher Bag: This silicone bag is the perfect solution for securing all the tiny bottle parts while in the dishwasher. It can be used way past your bottle washing days, too, by holding toddler cup pieces and utensils in place while in the dishwasher.

  2. Space-Saving Drying Rack: This drying rack is designed for saving counter space! It can hold bottles, pump parts, bottle lids, and everything else easily!

  3. Dr. Brown’s Sterilizer & Dryer: If you are going to be using and cleaning bottles and pump parts daily, having a bottle sterilizer is a great investment. This particular bottle sterilizer is easy to use and efficient. It can hold up to 6 bottles plus other accessories.

  4. Dr. Brown’s Dishwasher Basket: If you are using the Dr. Brown’s bottle system, this is a great item to have as it fits all the Dr. Brown’s bottle pieces perfectly! It is dishwasher safe and budget friendly!

  5. Bottle Drying Rack: This drying rack is great, especially if you have glass bottles. It is sturdy and has plenty of space to hold multiple bottles and all accessories. It is also easy to clean!

  6. Travel Bottle Brush Set: This portable drying rack and brush set is perfect for on-the-go parents! Everything you need to clean bottles and parts is in the set! It has a variety of silicone brushes, a mini soap dispenser, and built in drying racks.

  7. Branch Basics Cleaning Concentrate: Branch Basics is not specifically a “baby soap”; however, it’s a non-toxic, fragrance-free soap that can be used for all things baby! This multipurpose soap can be used for a large variety of your other cleaning needs, too!

  8. Haakaa Silicone Cleaning Brush: This bottle brush is on the pricier side compared to other bottle brushes; however, the silicone bristles are more durable and last longer than a typical bottle brush. This set comes with a variety of brush head sizes to ensure you can clean all parts of the bottle and pump parts.

  9. Stainless Steel Pot: If you are nursing and/or only needing to sterilize bottles and parts occasionally, using a stainless steel pot on the stove is a great alternative for sterilizing. Once you’re done using it for sterilizing bottles/parts you can repurpose for cooking!

  10. 2-Gallon Collapsible Tub: Use this collapsible basin as your baby’s designated sink to wash all their things that you don’t want touching the dirty kitchen sink!

  11. Boon Bottle Cleaning Brush Set: Not only does this brush set have a cute design, it’s also durable and has a variety of brush sizes to get everything cleaned! Jenna loves all of her Boon products.

  12. Attitude Baby Dish Soap: This baby dish and bottle soap is effective in getting bottles and parts clean, even the tough milk stains. It is made dye-free with clean ingredients!

  13. Breast Pump Wipes: When you’re on-the-go without a sink and need to clean your pump parts, these are a good option! They’re made with clean ingredients - water, grapefruit essence, and baking soda.

  1. Vera Bradley Cotton Pajamas: If you watch my stories on Instagram, you know these VB pajamas are a favorite and are worn on repeat. Such cute prints and 100% cotton. I love them so much, I have 4 sets! They frequently go on sale, so keep an eye out!

  2. Sollybaby Wrap: Such a comfortable wrap and great for the newborn to 3 month stage. It really can make baby feel safe and secure like the womb. Machine washable, too!

  3. Tush Baby: I LOVE this hip carrier. For about 4-5 months and up, it takes all the pressure off your back and it has pockets! I use it as a diaper bag when we run into places like the store or library. It is amazing. And it has a Snug Attachment to make it completely hands-free. Code “EATPLAYSAYsaves 15% on their website.

  4. Wildbird Aerial Carrier: The comfiest carrier I own! Every mom should look into one of these - the shoulder and back support are so great and I love that there is a piece to flip up to provide more head support or try and darken baby’s sleep space if they are taking a nap in it.

  5. Dimmable Night Light: Every mom should have one of these! Dim it with just a push of your finger and flip it over completely to turn it off. Perfect for middle of the night feedings and diaper changes.

  6. Copper Pearl Burp Cloths: My favorite burp cloths. They’re a great size (bigger IS better!) and wash well - and they come in fun colors.

  7. Hydroflask: Staying hydrated is so important during pregnancy and postpartum! I love my Hydroflask for on-the-go, and around the house! Stainless steel and holds 40 ounces. One of my fave spill-proof cups!

  8. Diaper Caddy: Momma - get yourself a personal caddy to put by your bedside! This one is perfect to keep snacks, hair clips, lotion, egg light, anything you need organized and close to you. You’ll be thanking yourself in the middle of the night! You can also use it for diapers and wipes in the future, too.

  9. Avent Soothie: This pacifier has a narrow slope and cylindrical shape that’s great for promoting tongue cupping. Feeding specialist approved!

  10. Claw Clips: The medium size makes them great for different hair lengths! Throw your hair up in a clip and instantly feel a little more put together :)

  11. Pacifier Clips: Cannot have enough of these! I like these because they are fabric- which means they can go in the washer and aren’t made of little balls that could be a choking risk if they fall off the clip!

  12. Diaper Bag Backpack: There’s a reason this bag has so many great reviews! The durability, pockets, and space are just a few of the positive features. It comes in a variety of colors and a great price point!

  13. Dagne Dover Indi Diaper Bag: My favorite diaper bag - and I’ve trialed a lot! This bag is spacious, great quality, and the zippers only require one hand. A game changer.
