Playroom organization isn’t always easy. You have to think about the space you have and how you want it to be used.
Finding the right toy storage solutions can change your life. Okay, okay, I know that sounds dramatic, but hear me out.
As a mom of two, I’ve learned that functional kids’ toy storage makes everything easier.
I tried many toy organizers and storage solutions while figuring out how to organize the playroom in our home. After some trial and error, I finally found solutions that worked for us.
I’m sharing what I learned! Here are my favorite functional toy organizers for keeping an organized playroom. Read about why I love them and how I use them to organize all the toys in our life.
Price: $126 as pictured, combinations vary in price
I love IKEA’s Trofast Storage Systems, especially for toy organization. It is truly the MVP for playroom organization in our home.
It’s a modular frame with guide rails that can fit three different sized bins. I consider this one of the best toy storage organizers because it’s customizable. We used these frames to build our customized toy storage for the playroom.
You can order it to fit your space and the types of toys you have. For example, you can get Trofast wall storage to mount, or other storage combinations that sit against the wall.
Many of the systems sit lower, which I love for kids. This allows them to access their toys safely and be more responsible for putting toys away independently.
The toy organizer storage bins come in three different sizes to suit a variety of needs. You can even buy different color bins to add color to whatever space you have, or stick with white.
What I love about it:
A highly versatile toy storage solution that can be customized to your preferences and space. It’s also not limited to toy storage! You can use it for things like clothing, shoes, arts and crafts, and more.
Toy Storage Organization Ideas:
I use the small bins for things like puzzles, sticker books, and action figures
I use the medium bins for Barbies, play food, MAGNA-TILES
I use the large bins for toys like building blocks, DUPLO sets, or larger play sets
This is one of my go-to pieces for organizing kids’ art supplies. All of my kids’ coloring supplies are housed here.
We use this for homeschool and crafting a lot. I love how I can fill the different sections with the arts and crafts supplies they need. The sections can be taken out and moved around.
It sits on the shelf of our Trofast System in the playroom for easy access whenever the kids want to create!
What I love about it:
It fits everything I need for arts and crafts – including scissors, glue sticks, and coloring supplies!
Little did I know, dress up storage would become an absolute necessity. My little ones are very into pretend play and dressing to play the part.
When the dresses, tutus, and other costumes started piling up on the floor and couch, I hit my limit. I found this dress up storage piece and immediately added to my cart.
I love the size of it – not too big, not too small. The rod is great for hanging dresses and clothing while the side hooks are perfect for storing hats, necklaces, etc. I love the cloth bin on the bottom which stores different accessories.
What I love about it:
An affordable dress up storage solution that holds a lot and looks nice, too!
When it comes to playroom organization, it’s not just about the toys! Having a place to store books is important.
We love books, and we have a lot of them. This is one of my favorite kids’ bookshelves because it keeps the books on their level! The acrylic side panels make it easy to see where the books are, and keep them in place.
What I love about it:
Aesthetically-pleasing book storage that’s on your child’s level!
Book storage & organization ideas:
Categorize books on each shelf or color coordinate them to make it more organized and fun
Bring out seasonal books in the weeks before holidays to get in the spirit!
My kids accumulated a lot of stuffed animals. I was losing my mind trying to figure out how to keep them organized and contained. There were stuffies everywhere I turned.
This stuffed animal storage zoo literally brought my sanity back. It can hold 100 stuffed animals (or more!) depending on size. The picture above has about 40 mid-sized stuffies inside with plenty of room for more.
The cage structure allows little ones to see where all of their beloved stuffies are. They can reach in to take them out safely.
What I love about it:
Simple stuffed animal toy organizer that maximizes space with its vertical design
It is sturdy and well-made
Stuffed Animal organization ideas:
Think outside the box! Use this storage for more than just stuffed animals. Think: kids’ play pillows, balls, larger dolls, etc.
If you’re looking for a toy chest for better playroom organization, this is a great one. The Melissa & Doug brand always makes quality pieces. I love the classic and sturdy design.
Better yet, this toy chest was built with little ones in mind. It has a slow-close safety hinge so toddlers can’t slam it shut and crush their fingers in the process.
A toy box like this is great because it provides concealed storage for toys. To clean up the play space, throw everything in and it’s out of sight.
What I love about it:
This solid wood toy chest holds a ton and doubles as kids’ seating
Toy Chest organization ideas:
Organize from within. Use storage bins and clear toy bags to organize different types of toys so it’s easier to find what you’re looking for!
We own Humble Crew’s toy storage organizer with bins and love it. It’s a no-nonsense piece that makes toy organization easy.
Each shelf holds plastic bins that come in different sizes. The bins tilt toward you, so you can see everything. Bins can be taken out and then popped right back on the shelf.
If you’re short on space, this is a great toy organizer to use in a closet! We moved ours to the closet and it stores all the baby toys while we wait for another little one to arrive.
What I love about it:
A great toy organizer with bins to fit in a closet and get maximum storage for a great price.
Small Space organization ideas:
Categorize the bins. Play food goes in one bin, MAGNA-TILES go in another, etc.
Keep pieces together! Use mesh bags to keep small pieces together within the bin.
Use the top shelf to store books or board games!
Once you’re out of the toy phase, use it to organize art supplies, clothing, accessories, etc.

Most parenting resources come from a single expert's perspective, but development doesn't really work that way.
You can't fully understand feeding without input from both a dietitian and a feeding specialist. You can't properly address milestones without OT, PT, and SLP perspectives working together. That's why every Eat Play Say resource is created collaboratively by our entire team — giving you the most comprehensive guidance possible, all in one place.
