All the Ways to Play:

  1. Felt Christmas Tree:

A favorite of our OT! Vertical play is amazing for increasing fine and gross motor strength and coordination, not to mention the sensory benefits of engaging with and placing the felt ornaments onto the tree!
Functional Language: tree, on, off, up, down, candy cane, snowman, Santa, snowflake

  2. Duplo Santa’s Gingerbread House:

Work on bilateral coordination and increasing fine motor strength and coordination as your little one connects and builds the duplo pieces to make the gingerbread house! Keep the house up all season for continued fun with open-ended play.
Functional Language: build, up, stack, house, Santa, present, in, out

  3. Wooden Menorah:

A great toy to involve little ones in learning about Hanukkah. Involve your child by letting them put the candle in the candelabra and saying the prayers for each day. Toddlers can work on matching the colors to the candle and menorah.
Functional Language: in, out, candle, colors

  4. Wooden Baking Set:

Practice sequencing steps and following directions with this pretend play set. Practice making pretend cookies with this set, then move to the kitchen and make real holiday cookies together! Reference the play set so your little one remembers the steps they have practiced. Great for 3+ years.
Functional Language: cookie, bake, in, pour, mix, next

  5. Melissa & Doug Holiday Slice & Bake:

Work on functional fine motor skills (scooping, sliding, and transferring cookies), as well as sequencing steps (first slice cookie, then place it on tray, then bake in oven) as you engage in pretend play with your little one. Great for 18+ months.
Functional Language: cookie, slice, cut, on, off, eat, bake, yum

  6. Step2 Christmas Tree:

This is amazing toy for encouraging gross motor development. Introduce to little ones as young as 9 months to work on pulling up to high kneeling and eventually standing as they reach up to put the ornaments through the tree holes.
Functional Language: tree, in, up, train, choo-choo

  7. Gingerbread Playhouse:

This life-sized coloring house is perfect for practicing coloring and handwriting skills, and a fun set for pretend play throughout the holiday season. Great for little ones of all ages!
Functional Language: in, out, color, open, close, knock

  8. Hanukkah Menorah Train:

Engage in play while teaching your little one about Hanukkah! Take the train on a trip each night before “lighting” a candle. Imitate train sounds, or work on color & shape sorting and matching with older toddlers when you put the candles in and take them out of the train.
Functional Language: stop, go, choo-choo, in, out, colors, shapes

  9. My First Gingerbread House:

This toy will grow with your little one throughout the holiday seasons. Practice reaching and grasping, lay the characters around on the floor to encourage rolling, practice putting in and taking out, and begin practicing pretend play. So many good activities with this set!
Functional Language: bear, gingerbread man, in, out, soft, shake, roll

  10. Little People Nativity Set:

Read the Christmas story with your little one, then use the play set to talk about the people in the Nativity scene. Then engage in open-ended play with the Little People!
Functional Language: names of people within the nativity, in, out, press

  11. Holiday Pop-Its:

Pop-its are great for working on isolating pointer finger, as well as providing a calm down sensory activity for when your little one needs a break. Also a great activity to keep for car rides! Perfect for little ones 9+ months.
Functional Language: pop, tree, Santa, gingerbread man, poke

  12. Little People Musical Holiday Train:

Little People fit perfectly in baby’s hands! Introduce as early as 9 months as your little one starts banging characters together, grasping/releasing, and moving the train back and forth. Transition for more open-ended and functional play with this toy as your little one approaches 1.5 years.
Functional Language: in, out, Santa, reindeer, train, choo-choo, stop, go
